2nd Annual Texas Beer in the Backwoods Homebrew Festival

March 30th and March 31st, 2007
Bluff Creek Ranch, Warda Texas

Come share great beer with your fellow brewers from across this great state in the first invitational Texas homebrew campout. We have reserved an entire campground for the whole weekend!

The festival will take place at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda, a scenic campground with a beautiful lake, as well as hiking and bike trails. Scheduled events include a sponsored raffle with a number of great items. Other activities will include a salsa competition (the dip not the dance), and various beery goings on from Friday through Sunday. Water and electricity will be available to those wishing to brew. Amenities also include showers and toilets. Over 100 tent sites will be available on a first come basis as will a limited number of RV sites that must be reserved in advance. Large rig hookups are available nearby (contact us for details). Hotels are available in Giddings or LaGrange about ten miles away for those not wanting to rough it.

Kegs of homebrew will abound and attendees are encouraged to bring something to share. Lots of space is available to those that would like to set up a booth or table (contact us for cheap sponsorship opportunities). Those interested in entering the salsa competition are encouraged to bring it in a small container.

Itinerary

Friday afternoon/early evening - Everyone arrives at campground. Check in at the ranch house. Find a campsite - Damon will help when you check in. Find Ed Moore or other minion (get a wristband) Find a beer! If you have a keg make sure it is labeled with your name taped on the side etc and find the trough under one of the tents - it will be easier to keep cold that way.

Friday night - Outdoor activities (besides drinking) includes bocce ball and horse shoes competitions. Pot luck dinner (around 8pm) – we will have tables to use under one of the large tents, there are also several grills near the campsites. Festivities to continue after dinner - include bonfires, scary beer stories (as in how I once drank a Coors Light by accident. Don’t be surprised if a grizzly beer guzzler wakes you for a beer.

Saturday morning (or whenever people define morning) - Eat a good breakfast so you can enjoy (or alternatively curse) the great outdoors. There are plenty of well marked bike trails for those wanting to go riding. Hiking is also a possibility. Maybe a few people will need to make another ICE run. For those that have to get away, Giddings has several antique shops, and La Grange has the ruins of the former Kreische brewery (tours at 2 and 3:30pm)! Those interested in brewing might need to co-ordinate with each other in the morning to avoid congestion later in the afternoon.

Saturday evening - More beer! As so many people are bringing homebrew kegs please keep the brewer of each a secret so we can hold an informal keg competition to choose our favorite keg (put your style on the keg and if possible your name on the side with tape so it can't be seen when in the trough). Early evening 9around 5 or 6pm we will set out the chips and salsa for the Salsa

competition –if you are brought salsa look for a table under one of the tents we will utilize so we can let everyone check off their favorites. Dinner might be a "do it yourself" affair on Saturday - I was told by the ranch owner that he sells hamburgers grown on site. After dinner (perhaps 7 or 8pm) it will be time for a Raaaffle - lots of seriously good stuff on the line. Late night goings on will include a meeting of the "Dead Palates Society" at midnight hosted by our own Emil - bring your weird, wacky or just plain bad brews for a late night session to test whether anyone's taste buds remain intact. Cow tipping, anything is possible later after that.

Sunday morning (again I use the term morning loosely) - everyone departs at their leisure with fond memories (or the lack thereof).
